now fashion model

The Houston Chronicle’sStyle section(home subscribers only) this Sunday features a splashy, multiple page feature inspired by Summer of Love era fashions, as well as (in part) byFree Press Summer Festhappening this weekend in Eleanor Tinsley Park in Houston.

Though we originally intended to shoot outdoors for a music festival chic vibe, a torrential downpour put a damper (get it?) on our plans. Improvising, theContinental Club, a live music venue in Midtown, and its adjoining sister barShoeshine Charley’s Big Top Loungegraciously provided what became an arguably even better backdrop.

The stars of the show, so to speak internationally known model Bay Berger and buzzed about local musicianChase Hamblin rose to the occasion, too, keeping both fun and energy levels on high. The team also included Houston Chronicle photographer Michael Paulsen, fashion stylist Leslie Rivas Kelly, hair and makeup artist Bianca Linette and assistant Amy Ly.

As a supplement to our photo shoot running in print, we decided to chat with a few of the fashion feature’s key players in this blog. First up is CHASE HAMBLIN, whose Chase Hamblin The Roustabouts was just nominated for Best Pop act in the annual Houston Press Music Awards. on Saturday, June 1. Somewhat ’60s mod.

Where do you shop
cheap ray bans in Houston?I like vintage stores like Buffalo Exchange and Replay on 19th, plus second hand stores like Value Village and Salvation Army. Most of my clothing comes from Steve Candelari, the drummer in my ’60s tribute group, Picture Book. He’s a vintage clothing dealer who travels around to estate sales and he’s always bringing me the best stuff.

Does your personal style reflect the type of music you create?I think so. I’m into classic styles of music and classic styles of clothing.

What are some of your summer wardrobe staples?I’m not really a shorts person unless I’m doing yoga or jogging, so I do
replica ray bans pants and boots all year round. I wear lots of thin V necks in the Houston heat and good sunglasses are essential.

Go to accessories?I wear a leather wrist band that my friend Marc Schriener made. He’s an opera singer in New York now, and a talented leather worker. The band is textured like the bark of a tree and is a very dark cherry color. I also wear a bone pendant I

You weren’t lip syncing during our photo shoot as the shutter clicked, you were actually singing and strumming. Do you recall what songs you played?I played my song, "Round And Round," plus "Bring It On Home To Me" in the style of The Animals, plus "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan and part of "King of The Road" by Roger Miller.

Did you enjoy modeling for a day?I enjoyed working with all the people the most. Everyone really got along and we had a fun time. Bay, the model, was super sweet. My favorite part was when she had the mic and was singing songs from "The Little Mermaid!"

Had you modeled previously?Yes, I did some modeling in New York when I was in college. I still do shoots on occasion
cheap ray bans but mostly due to my reputation as a musician with style, not as a model. I did a cool shoot for the designer Leighelena in Austin not too long ago.

What musicians inspire you?I’m inspired by so much music it would be impossible to list everything, but some of the most inspirational artists for me are David Bowie, The Beatles, Dr. Dog, The Zombies, early Bee Gees, Radiohead, The Kinks, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Buckley, Tom Waits, The Rolling Stones, and many of the great local musicians I’ve met and learned from through the years including Geoffrey Muller, Ryan Guidry, Robert Ellis and Derek Dunivan.

Who is your style icon?I don’t really have one, but I do love the Rolling Stones style in 1967, particularly Brian, Keith and Charlie.

Where can we see you perform in Houston after FPSF?We will be at Houston Beer Fest on June 8th and at Discovery Green Thursday Concert Series on June 20th.Articles Connexes:
